Algifol, Water Tanks, Sprayers, and Much More!

  • A boost during dry conditions

Dry conditions are causing concern for many growers as April showers don’t seem to be bringing much rain with them. Algifol applied on its own or mixed with other trace elements will give plants  a much  needed boost by improving fine root hairs which will help with the uptake of moisture and essential nutrients. 1 Litre per hectare is sufficient to start with, Algifol can be safely mixed with pesticides so can be incorporate into a spray programme.

  • Growth stage importance

Growth stage importance is becoming apparent this season with a wide variation between varieties and planting dates. The prolonged planting season coupled with cold conditions have left a wide difference in crop growth stages. Sagitta shown here is now showing small tubers with a few still at initiation

Sagitta dug on 17/06/2016 Sagitta dug on 17/06/2016

With recent heavy rains the soils are nice and moist with sufficient moisture available to maintain good growth we are recommending another application of Algifol biostimulant in the next week this can be incorporated with the blight spray, algifol will help the plant maintain these tubers and ensure sufficient uptake of essential nutrients and help plants build a strong immune system to combat stress if it turns hot and dry.

This root of Markies is only at hooking stage with a couple of tips just initiating so we will check again in a week to check for timing of second application of algifol biostimulant which will also be applied with the blight spray at 1 litre per hectare.

Markies at hook stage with one or two tubers initiating Markies dug on 17/06/2016

The growth stage differrence here makes test digging very important to asses the correct timings of inputs as planting was only three days apart, this highlights the problems of growing different varieties with different growth habits. At mjp supplies we can tailor a programme for algifol inputs based on individual clients varieties and conditions, including the end market which is very important. if needed we will go on farm and demonstrate the different growth stages for optimum application timing or if growers prefer they can dig their own and send photos to us for evaluation.

Recent heavy storms have bashed some crops about, leaving fields  waterlogged and crops showing signs of stress already, An application of algifol biostimulant has been proven to help crops recover faster and reduce any yield losses further

  • Algifol found to raise sugar content

Research shows Algifol found to raise sugar content in many crops including sugar beet.  Our on farm trials have shown an increase on average of 1 to 1.5% by applying up to 3 litres per hectare throughout the growing season.

We recommend using 1 litre per hectare at the four to six leaf stage, followed 2/3 weeks later and a third with the first fungicide.  The first application will help plants overcome any toxic shock received from extensive herbicide use.  We already know that plants treated with seaweed products develop a resistance to pests and diseases.  Not only to sap seeking insects such as red spider mite and aphides but also mildew and fungi.

With the current outbreak expected of leaf minor and no insecticide derogation at present, the use of Algifol may bring natural benefits to plant health by stimulating plant growth and allowing the plant to build natural defences.

Algifol also contains auxins which stimulates growth in both stems and roots of plants, the auxin content alone is scarcely enough to promote growth but plants treated stimulate more vitamins and growth hormones than would otherwise be the case.

Any growers wishing to try this for themselves to see the results on their own farm can contact us for supply or further information.

  • Cold weather slowing crop establishment

Cold weather slowing crop establishment this spring is becoming a worry for many growers up and down the country. With a cold and late spring delaying planting of many spring crops establishment has been very slow and variable, the weather at the moment in the eastern counties is also holding back many crops, which is adding stress to plants and small seedlings.

Potato crops are emerging slowly in many cases and with the added blight pressure some are suffering from stress, most growers are starting blight programmes now and this is the perfect time to start thinking about adding Algifol biostimulant, a natural seaweed based product containing a wealth of essential nutrients, plus plant hormones amongst other ingredients. Algifol can be applied in conjunction with most blight spray programmes at a rate of just one litre per hectare. We would recommend applying the first application when plants meet along rows, then a second at tuber initiation followed by a third four weeks before lifting or burning off. The use of seaweed in potato growing is nothing new. it has been used successfully for many years because we have seen that seaweed contains all known trace elements, but it is important that these elements are present in a form acceptable to plants.Trace elements can be made more available to plants by chelating.  Such chelating properties are possessed by the starches, sugars and carbohydrates in seaweed and seaweed products.  That is why trace elements in seaweed and seaweed products do not settle out but remain available to plants when needed.

It is also known that plants treated with seaweed products develop a resistance to pests and diseases, not only to sap seeking insects but also aphides, scab, mildew and fungi.  Such a possibility may seem novel but it is keeping with the results in research in related fields.

  • low oil prices are helping households save money

2500 litre bunded oil tank 2500 litre bunded oil tank

Low oil prices are helping households save money . Domestic oil known as kerosene is at historically low prices at the moment, meaning most households are making substantial savings. When you consider 1000 litres of oil will cost approximately £246.00 today compared with £450.00 last January the saving are very useful. (prices correct as of 27/01/2016)

We see this as a perfect opportunity to review your existing storage facilities, some people will just want to upgrade their oil storage to improve security or just have peace of mind of a new bunded tank. As many customers know older plastic tanks can suffer from cracks and blisters due to exposure to sunlight and become unsafe for use. some oil companies are refusing to fill any tanks that look like they may leak causing pollution to the environment. To avoid this MJP supplies will offer a free appraisal of your old oil tank and provide you with a quote for any replacement tank should that be necessary.

The other way in which consumers can benefit from lower fuel prices is by increasing their storage capacity with a new larger tank. Enabling them to order more fuel at a time when prices are lower. It's almost possible to buy 2000 litres today for the price of 1000 litres 12 months ago and very often a better price can be negotiated for larger amounts.

Our tanks come complete with Watchman sonic, Spillstop and tank fitting kit. They are also guaranteed for 10 years.

1200 litre slimline tank 1200 litre slimline tank The watchman is very useful as it keeps  watch on the level of oil in the tank from the comfort of your house. The spillstop is another safety device to prevent overfilling. As for fitting this can be done by your own engineer with the kit provided. alternatively we can provide a full fitting service and removal of your old tank. Our qualified engineer will fit the new tank and make sure your boiler is up and running with no leaks or air locks

  • Algifol to boost sugar beet yield

Algifol is being used to boost sugar beet yield on many farms this year as more growers realize the benefits of using Algifol bio-stimulant to help struggling beet plants overcome the stresses of cool weather combined with winds and in some cases dry seedbeds. Every grower realizes the difference of making a return on sugar beet this year is purely down to maximizing yield and we need higher sugar content and root weight to convert to yield. Early establishment is crucial in getting good leaf area to maximize the photosynthesis over a longer summer period, the use of harsh herbicides can have a toxic effect on small beet and set them back in poor conditions. We recommend an application of Algifol @1 litre per hectare after 4 to 6 true leaves preferably in between applications of herbicide or sooner if plants are struggling. A second application of 1 litre per hectare 2 to 3 weeks later will help canopy closure and increase green leaf area. Algifol stimulates the root system and enables nutrients and water to be obtained more easily making the plant better at dealing with stressful growing conditions. Algifol can safely be mixed with most other nutrients and can have a synergistic effect when combined allowing quicker uptake into the plants.  We have growers reporting sugar increases of up to 1.5% in some cases by just adding Algifol so a good return over investment is seen. With late lifted crops a later application combined with a fungicide will help maintain yield and sugar content. For more details on using Algifol on sugar beet or any other crops please contact us for more detailed instructions to help you get the most from your crops

  • Special offer on 10,000 water tanks

may 2015 025 A special offer on 10,000 litre water tanks is currently available from mjpsupplies for a limited time only . With the current dry conditions across much of the country at the moment more farmers and growers are looking at ways to store their own water that they collect from roofs through filters to remove any debris that can cause blockages in sprayers or irrigation equipment. We also now that rainwater is better for spraying agrochemicals  as it improves the efficacy of many chemicals especially glyphosate. Many growers are using water softeners but they can save money by harvesting their own rainwater which dosn't require softening. Most farms will have extensive roof area that will accommodate these systems and we can supply tanks from 1,000 litres up to 30,000 litres. If anyone requires more storage we can connect multiple tanks together. We also have an extensive range of outlets to suit most customers needs.

All of our tanks are rotationally moulded  as a one piece tank. At no stage is the roof removed and screwed back on. A carefully programmed manufacturing process ensures maximum wall thickness at the base where its most needed. Enduramax tanks are all backed up by a 10 year warranty for peace of mind.

For customers on water meters there is a big saving to be had by collecting and storing their own free water and with improved usage of chemicals the investment soon pays back.
